Sleepless Nights

posted on March 2, 2010 in Real Life Rant

I can’t sleep the night before a day I know is going to be full of panic emails and phone calls. I couldn’t sleep Friday night as my head was racing with the list of people I had to ring and the consequences should things not go right. And should not all the paperwork come out right … the thought made me lurch with panic as I would have to make hasty calls to back up actors and stressed parents.

I awoke early Saturday morning feeling queasy with my stomach lurching with all the stress running through my head. As I tossed and turned for two hours until daybreak I realised the feeling of unease wasn’t going to go away. So I got up to get some water and promptly threw up and didn’t stop until midday!

Luckily all my worries worked out okay (after about two hours of hair tearing) and my stomach bug went away by Sunday evening.

Along with general illness for the past two weeks I’ve been living on trains with hopping from London back to uni every week. Lots of moving around and emails emails emails. Looking forward to updated SFS soon!

A New Decade

posted on January 11, 2010 in Professional Film Work, Real Life Rant

It’s weird to think I was 10 at the beginning of this decade. So young! As we embark on a whole new decade I realise I will be 30 by May 2020. That fills me with such horror and dread! So what have I done these past 10 years that I can be proud of?

2000 - 2009
I saw the turn of a century aged 10.
A short film course opened my eyes to the world of film aged 14.
I passed my GCSE exams aged 16.
I was a background extra professionally, and then I knew I needed to be on film sets forever, aged 17.
I got my first proper boyfriend, whom I’m still with, aged 17.
I then passed my A-Levels aged 18.
I realised that I never wanted to do anything else except be a casting director aged 18.
I got into the film school I wanted aged 18.
I got my first intern job in a professional top casting director’s office aged 18.
I left Europe for the first time and travelled to Hong Kong aged 19.

What can I do in the next 10 years that I will be proud of? I would like to see this:

2010 - 2019
I got a degree BA (Hons) Film Production aged 21.
I travelled to explore America, Australia and Japan aged 21.
I got my first job in a casting office aged 21.
My website got recognised as a great source for UK teen actors, aged 22.
I got my first Casting Associate role aged 23.
I got my first Casting Director role and my own office and company aged 24.
I paid off my student debt aged 25.
I got married aged 27.
I campaigned for the category ‘Best Casting’ in the Oscars and won, aged 28.
I won an award for ‘Best Casting’ for a feature film at the Oscars, aged 29.

Wow. Meh, I can dream can’t I? It’s quite nice to see all my life goals in order like that. Not that getting married is a life goal, it just would be nice! But it also makes me realise I have a lot to do by 2020!

What are your goals for the next decade, and what have you achieved already? If you want you can copy the format I’ve done and link me to it - it’s fun and I’d like to see what your goals are!
